Network Systems Engineering Corp. (NSEC) has extensive experience with the design, implementation, validation, and testing of Plant Process Computer Systems at nuclear power stations. These systems are designed to meet all regulatory requirements, including 10CFR Part 36, and address the functions typically associated with the Plant Process Computer Systems, which include:
- Data Point Processing
- Plant Monitoring Functions
- Safety Parameter Display Systems (SPDS) Functions
- Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Functions
- Radiation Dose Assessment
- Data Archiving
- Technical Support Center
- Training/Simulation
NSEC works with its Clients to develop designs that incorporate commercially available off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and software systems thus minimizing customization; reducing the risk of obsolescence; and providing flexibility for future upgrades, enhancements, and additions. In those situations, NSEC works with the system/OEM vendors to ensure that their products are appropriately integrated into the overall design and installed to maximize system performance. If required, NSEC can develop custom hardware and software solutions when commercially available products are not available or are not appropriate for the specific application.
NSEC engineers can develop all plant change documentation in accordance with Plant Procedures. Our engineers are fully cognizant of all regulations affecting the implementation of plant equipment, including:
- IEEE Std. 323-1974, IEEE Standard for Qualifying Class 1E Equipment for Nuclear Power Generating Stations
- IEEE Std. 344-1975, IEEE Recommended Practices for Seismic Qualification of Class 1E Equipment for Nuclear Power Generating Stations
- IEEE Std. 383-1974, Standard for Type Test of Class 1E Electric Cables, Field Splices and Connections for Nuclear Generating Stations
NSEC can also provide services associated with an Independent Verification & Validation (V&V) Program in accordance with all applicable regulations, including:
- IEEE Std. 730-1998, IEEE Standard for Software Quality Assurance Plans
- IEEE Std. 828-1998, IEEE Standard for Software Configuration Management Plans
- IEEE Std. 829-1983, IEEE Standard for Software Test Documentation
- IEEE Std. 830-1984, IEEE Guide to Software Requirements Specifications
- ANSI/IEEE 1012-1986, Standard for Software Verification and Validation Plans
NSEC maintains a fully qualified Appendix B Quality Assurance Program and is capable of performing engineering design work on “safety-related” systems. NSEC also maintains a fully qualified Safeguards Information Program that meets all aspects of 10CFR Part 73.21.
NSEC engineers have been involved in a number of major projects dealing with the implementation of Plant Process computer Systems at various Nuclear Power Stations. These include:
- Design, implementation, and testing of a Safety Parameter Display System (SPDS) at the Hope Creek and Salem Nuclear Power Stations.
- Performed Independent Verification & Validation Programs for the Safety Parameter Display Systems at the following Nuclear Power Stations:
